Bling {Omaha Birthday Cakes}

 Ask and ye shall receive.  Tara wanted "A lot of bling and a pink soccer ball" on her cake...I hope she liked what I was able to create (wish I'd ordered some edible jewels from somewhere).
 The entire cake was dusted with a shimmery glitter so the cake would shimmer and shine in the light.

The "8" was a double layer gum paste cut out, with fake diamonds glued all around (The 8 is NOT edible).

I love the last picture I posted, and how the shiny board I put the cake on reflects the border.

The flavor was a chocolate cake with raspberry filling and buttercream frosting.

I really hope Tara had a very happy 8th Birthday!

Iron On Instructions

Follow these few simple steps to successfully apply your iron on kit to any fabric surface you'd like.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1.         Preheat iron to wool setting (medium high heat) without steam.
2.         Lay out all pieces on shirt to make sure you have an idea of how it should look when finished.
             Peel off paper backing from each piece.
3.         Place material, adhesive side down (shiny and smooth), in desired position on top of shirt.  Press and hold iron for 5-7 seconds on each section until entire piece is bonded.  (ironing time may vary)  Let shirt cool 10-15 seconds then repeat.  Do not leave the iron in one place for more then a few seconds.  ***I am not responsible for over-ironing your kit.  Ironing the kit once or twice should be more then enough time to seal your kit to your fabrics***

4.        FOR TURKEYS:  Use a fabric glue, hot glue, or super glue to carefully add the wiggly eyes.  Do not iron over the eyes...turn the shirt inside out to iron if you need to reattach any parts.

TIPS:
Do not sew.  Due to the thickness of the adhesive, machine stitching is not advisable.
If a small section peels off in the wash, simply iron back into place, placing a damp rag over the section to help seal it down.
 However, Heat-n-Bond should  not lift or pucker after washing.
 For  best results, lay flat to dry.   The heat from the dryer can cause some pieces to come unglued.  If you forget and it goes in the dryer and a piece happens to come off, simply iron it back in place (except turkeys, if it is near the eyes, then turn inside out to iron)

It was a long week, but it was fun! {Omaha Birthday Cakes, Omaha Wedding Cakes, Lincoln Brithday Cakes}

This past week I had THREE cake orders (and my husband's birthday party) and I was a major contributor to a wedding cake (LONG story).
Though I did not see the cake 100% finished, the bride had picked a lovely image for me to cut out of gum paste and I bet Jean did a fabulous job finishing it (I can't wait for the bride to get back from her honey moon and post pictures!).  I did about 55-70% of the total work and loved the bottom layer (the only one I got to see finished in person).
Here are the four birthday cakes I did this past week:
My first time using shimmer dust (or whatever it is called.)  I forgot to cut it with corn starch, so it was a bit strongly colored, but Isabella LOVED it anyway.  This was my first stand up tiara and I thought it was so cute.

This was my first delivery to somewhere more then a few miles away.  I was so nervous, but it worked out great!  My friend said everyone loved it, which made me happy, since I just knew something had magically happened to it during the car trip from Omaha to Lincoln.  :)
This cake was for my friend's son and features the print and cut feature of the Silhouette.

My husband's birthday cake.  He is a huge Phineas and Ferb fan :)

I don't see myself doing this much cake in one week anytime soon, but with some careful planning, a supportive family, and a "figure out plan B" attitude, I survived.  Maybe it was all the frosting I was eating throughout the process.  He, he, he.

Princess Birthday Cake {Omaha Birthday Cakes}

This was my first time using shimmer dust and my first time to do a stand up image.  I made the tiara last week (out of gum paste) so it had a long time to dry hard.  Isabella is a very girlie girl, so I hope she likes my interpretation of girlie girl (Her mom just told me a few things she liked and favorite colors and let me go from there!)

Today I finished cutting out designs for a wedding cake I am helping with.  I am not baking/frosting/stacking it.  I am just cutting the designs and covering the cakes in fondant.  It's a team work cake :)  I can't wait to post a picture.  Plus, a Toy Story cake for my friend Dawne and a Disney Princess cake for my friend Jenny in Lincoln.  What a cake week!

Nebraska Cornhuskers Football Cake {Omaha Football Cakes}

Oh my heck!  I am LOVING using the Silhouette for cake decorating!  I made this cake for a play date at my friend's house.  Everything is edible, and I got the design from scrapbooking paper and a Nebraska logo I bought at a scrapbook store.
I've got a few more idea combos that I can't wait to try out, too!  Scrapbook stores are so great for cake decorating inspiration, especially now that I can recreate exactly what I see if I want.

Five

Be on the look out for FIVE new cakes coming this month.
My first one is a Nebraska Cornhusker cake, just in time for football season...I am making that one tomorrow!  I can't wait!
I am going to be using my Silhouette for all the decorations, too, including using the Silhouette's print and cut feature.  My mom is debuting this technique at ICES convention in California and then she will be selling Silhouettes, DVD's, and other accessories on her site.
This summer I learned a LOT about this newest cake decorating technique and can't wait to put it into practice.
